A break in the action

Monday morning I sent my kids off to school. 15 minutes later the door bell rang. I opened the door to find a woman I had seen before, but didn't know, and her dog, along with a crying Kortlan. Come to find out, this woman was walking past Kendrie and Kortlan just 1/2 a block from the school and after she passed them she heard a terrible crashing sound. She turned around and found that Kortlan had ran into a parked trailer on the left side of the road. She sent Kendrie off to school and she walked him and his bike home. His damage consisted of cuts and scraps and bruises on his forehead, elbows, knees and hands as well as a broken wrist.

The irony of the story is that Monday was the first day of "Green Ribbon" safety week at school. A week that is dedicated to walking, playing, and of course, bike riding safety. He gets to go back to school tomorrow and hopefully will be able to get along ok, since he broke his writing hand. We are still trying to figure out how he managed to run into the 30' trailer. He said he just turned his head to the side to look at something. Apparently, so did his handle bars.

Powder River, Let 'er Buck

So apparently we are such huge Wyoming Cowboys fans that we drove to Laramie, WY (a 5 1/2 hour drive) to watch them play against Air Force. We froze, the cowboys lost, and we drove home. Of course it was a fun filled day despite the loss because we got to spend 17 hours with each other driving the open Wyoming road under the big Wyoming skies.

It was a learning experience as well.

We got to teach our kids about wind harvesting as we past the giant wind turbines:

How to proudly hold up those foam fingers and yell for the pokes "Powder River, Let 'er Buck!"

How to accomplish a "cup check" while in motion and avoiding a tackle

No boot is too big to stand on

And big Wyoming skies provide big Wyoming sunsets

P.S. Just as a side note, I am not really a Wyoming Cowboy fan, per say. If they win, great. If not, I'm not to upset about it. If I were to claim a team that I am a true college football fan of I would have to say "O--S--U! Oregon State, fight, fight, fight" (you can see my arms over my head doing that cheer, can't ya?)

New additions

The Sequoia's lease was up. So was my patience with it's MPG's. As much as I love my Sequoia, I turned it in and bought this and doubled my MPG's, as well as my chances for a speeding ticket:

Labor Day Weekend

Saturday was spent at the Eastern Idaho State Fair, a tradition for our family. Jim and I have only missed 3 in the 14 years we have been together. Those 3 years were the ones spent in Mesquite, when it was too far of a drive. We sure made up for them this trip! Check out those cotton candy stacks! Ugh, they made us so sick! Even with 6 of us eating on them we still had to throw most of them away. My favorite treat was the egg rolls. Yes, I ate 2 of them and they were really good. I also enjoyed the scone bites and the baked potato and the french fries and the lemonade slush and the carmel apple. I felt like Templeton when we finally headed home. Kortlan loved the animal barns. These two were bahhh-ing back and forth to each other. I wish I had had the video camera. It was so cute to watch. He got a kick out of it and could have done it all day. But we told him we had more animals to see, so he headed for the cow barns to see if he could make a cow moo at him. Kendrie's favorite was the horse barns. This is what she loves. So onto the McKee's Petting Zoo! A family favorite. For 25 cents you can have goats and kids jump all over you and nibble your fingers off thinking that it's the grain you just dumped on the ground because a big one just hit you in the stomach.... ah, so much fun! I suppose it was more fun when I was their age, too. I just like going there to hold the puppies.
