The Racers

Kendrie's softball teamed played their last practice game last night. Next week, scores start getting recorded. In her first game on Tuesday, she got 3 fouls and a strike out. Last night she got 2 hits and 1 RBI. She was so elated! She ran from base to base with the biggest grin on her face and shot me a thumbs up when she arrived to her next base. It will be fun to see her progress for the next few weeks. Then comes golf and swimming and basketball and if I can ever find her a piano teacher . . . Ah, 'tis the age of busy summers.

Kindergarten Field Trip

Kortlan's class got to go to Hogle Zoo yesterday. I told him that I would drive us down there. He didn't like that idea. He wanted to ride the bus. I told him I can't ride the bus because of my aversion to motion. He told me I couldn't go then. It was the bus or nothing. I told him that he could ride the bus and I would follow it in my car. He was happy with that idea. And so we were off. Now you would think that I would check the weather report, um, yeah, no. I dressed according to Tuesday's weather, which was 80 and very sunny. The skies held a different fate for us Wednesday. We arrived at the zoo in 49 degree rain showers. We were freezing! Good thing about cooler weather at the zoo though, the big cats and wolves weren't sleeping. They were all very active and the boys loved it! Kort and I toured the zoo with 3 other boys from his class, Zack, Riley and Thomas. Kortlan's favorite part? The Ghost of the Bayou. Mine, the giraffes. I was excited to see that there was a new addition to the giraffe display, a 2 month old baby girl. So cute!

School Play

The PTA put on the annual school play last week - The Aristocats. Kendrie and Kortlan decided that they wanted to try out. So I let them. Kortlan sang the Spongebob Theme song and Kendrie sang a Hannah Montana song. I thought they did very well (what mother wouldn't). I was not, however, impressed with the way the "auditions" were organized or advertised. Nor was I all that excited to see that most of the kids that were also auditioning had choreographed dance moves to their karaoke machine played accompanied songs. Some even had costumes. Ok, I will not go into my opinion of this, but..... no, I am just going to leave it at that.
So anyway, the performances were last week. And Kendrie and Kortlan did not get a part in the play, but the PTA felt that the kids that didn't make it into the play needed to form a pre-show choir. So that is what my kids did. They sang their little hearts out and made me proud. They sang I am Proud to be an American, Zippideedooda, and the Mickey Mouse Club theme song.
The lighting was horrible in the gym, these were the best pictures I have of their performance.
